Stephen Covey says that because of the constant of change we usually face new challenges. New challenges call for new response to meet that challenge.

This is the essence of new practices. Is not to make people’s life crazy, as a lot of people think. Is a result of an effort to face new challenges, a necessary effort. So it’s also necessary to let the old practice go. It worked for a while, but results are more important than keep inefficient practices.

Two things are important in this scenario: first, the change itself causes discomfort, so help people to overcome that. Second, keep the potential result on people’s sight. The more they face the improvements the better they will embrace it.

NOVAS PRÁTICAS SURGEM PORQUE NOS TORNAMOS INEFICIENTES NAS ANTIGAS

Stephen Covey fala que por causa da constante da mudança normalmente enfrentamos novos desafios. Novos desafios pedem por novas reações que correspondam ao desafio.

Essa é a essência das novas práticas. Não é enlouquecer as pessoas, como muitos pensam. São o resultado de um esforço para vencer os novos desafios, um esforço necessário. Também é necessário se desapegar das antigas práticas. Funcionaram por um tempo, mas os resultados se tornam mais importantes que as práticas ineficazes.

Duas coisas são importantes nesse cenário: Primeiro, a mudança em si já causa desconforto, então ajude as pessoas a superarem ele. Segundo, mantenha os resultados potenciais à vista das pessoas. Quanto mais visualizarem as melhorias mais vão se envolver com elas.

JUICE MAKER // CENTRÍFUGA

🇺🇸 I have a juice maker at home and I love it. I love what it does and how it does. Personally, I like to take the fruits or vegetables, cut home a put in the juice maker to see the juice filling the cup. I even like to wash it after use it and leave it in perfect use for the next time. I’ll tell you what it so interesting to me in that.
 I believe in transformation. For me is one of the most fascinating experiences in life, is when I see anything being transformed into something else. Specially when I see transformation in a person. We were created with the capability to grow, to develop, to improve and I see transformation as part of these processes. And that’s what I see when I am using the juice maker. I see transformation.
 But the interesting thing is that in this case the transformation is not about turning the fruit into something different. It’s the transformation of its condition. When a fruit becomes a liquid it’s because that liquid was in the fruit. The machine only work to bring out that part of the fruit. I don’t believe people can be transformed into something they are not. What happens is we can bring out of people characteristics they have and those characteristics can represent a transformation in them. If we’re able to make people show the best of what they are we create a power to make them love the best of what they can do.
 There’s no better felling when we love what we’re doing. The results are always amazing too. But people are not like fruit. After squeeze a fruit, we trow it off. We should never trow people off. Never!

🇧🇷 Tenho uma centrífuga em casa e amo ela. Amo o que ela faz e como ela faz. Pessoalmente, gosto de pegar frutas e vegetais, cortá-los e colocar na centrífuga pra ver o suco encher o copo. Até gosto de lavar a centrífuga pra deixar ela pronta pra usar de novo. Vou dizer porque acho tão interessante isso.
 Acredito na transformação. Pra mim, é uma das mais fascinantes experiências na vida. Quando vejo qualquer coisa sendo transformada em algo mais. Especialmente quando vejo transformação em uma pessoa. Fomos criados com a capacidade de crescer, desenvolver, melhorar e vejo transformação como parte desses processos. É o que eu vejo quando uso a centrífuga. Vejo transformação.
 Mas é interessante que nesse caso a transformação não é tornar a fruta em algo diferente do que ela é. É a transformação de uma condição. Quando a fruta se torna em líquido é porque o líquido estava dentro dela. A máquina só extraiu aquela parte da fruta. Não creio que pessoas se transformem em algo que não sejam. O que acontece é que podemos extrair das pessoas características que elas têm e essas características podem representar transformação para elas. Se formos capazes de ajudar as pessoas a mostrarem o seu melhor, criamos um poder que fará com que amem o que de melhor podem fazer.
 Não tem melhor sentimento do que fazer o que se ama. Resultados sempre vão ser incríveis. Mas frutas não são pessoas. Esprememos a fruta e jogamos o resto fora. Não fazemos isso com pessoas. Nunca!

SIGNATURE // ASSINATURA

🇺🇸 Our signature is a personal mark. Today is so important as a royal seal in the past. Of course because the development of writing it became easier to do it by hand instead go creating a stamp and use melted wax to print it. Now we have more sophisticated forms of signatures, like digital and virtual.
 I had a concerning of creating my signature since I was a kid. I remember my father’s signature. It was very simple. It was only his first name in a fancy writing. It was a nice signature and I able to copy it. My mother use to sign her full name in a cursive writing. I was able to copy my mother’s signature as well. Of course I never forged their signature for anything, but if I did nobody would ever notice it.
 When I turned 18 I created my signature. Which that age I was able to have a bank account and could sign some official documents. I was in college and one day I was looking at the bulletin board. There was a letter with a personal signature. That signature was the model for me to create my own. The name initials were different, but I liked the design and used on mine. I like my signature, it has a perfect balance of lines, but who cares about that? Well, one day someone told me I have a beautiful signature. The more important about it is that my signature confirms most of the decisions I make. It represents myself.
 What’s the best way to represent ourselves so other people will accept the decisions we make? We are worth more than lines in a paper. We’re always leaving our mark and what does that mean to the others?

🇧🇷 Nossa assinatura é uma marca pessoal. Hoje é tão importante quanto era um selo real no passado. Claro que devido ao desenvolvimento da escrita ficou mais fácil fazer, ao invés de ter que criar um carimbo e marcar em cera derretida. Hoje temos meios mais sofisticados, como assinaturas digitais.
 Sempre me preocupei com a assinatura que teria. Lembro da assinatura do meu pai. Era bem simples. Apenas seu primeiro nome escrito de um jeito requintado. Eu consegui copiar a assinatura. Minha mãe assina o nome completo com letra corrida. Também consegui copiar a dela. Claro que nunca falsifiquei a assinatura deles pra nada, mas se fizesse provavelmente ninguém iria notar a diferença.
 Quando fiz 18 anos criei minha assinatura. Já tinha idade para ter conta no banco e assinar alguns documentos. Estava na faculdade e um dia olhando no mural vi uma carta com uma assinatura pessoal. Aquela assinatura foi o modelo para criar a minha. As iniciais do nome eram diferentes, mas gostei do design e usei na minha. Gosto da minha assinatura, acho que tem um equilíbrio perfeito de linhas, mas que importância tem isso? Bem, um dia alguém disse que minha assinatura é bonita. O mais importante é que a assinatura confirma a maioria das decisões que eu faço. Ela me representa.
 Qual a melhor maneira de sermos representados para que as pessoas aceitem nossas decisões? Valemos mais que linhas num papel. Sempre estamos deixando nossa marca e o que ela representa?

COIN // MOEDA

🇺🇸 Words follow ways not always the same. The meaning can be the same, but can take different forms of construction. Same thing happen with the fruit of the seeds. The same fruit can have different names depending on the location. Same flavor and shape, different experience for those who taste it.
 Todays word is COIN. The meaning of the word is to stamp a drawing in metal by embossing a mark to identify or honor an authority. The result of this process created the monetary object used for trading. The meaning comes from the Old French coigne, which comes from latin cuneus, and means “wedge”. The first evidence of coins dates from the 7th Century BC, from Lydia, today’s West of Turkey. 
 At the beginning they were made as religious souvenirs, offered by the priests to the devoters. They were related to the Temple of Artemis of Ephesus. The believers began to give value to those objects and some traded with others for goods, until it became the basic currency for merchant. The practice turned into the object of use and the value were in the material the coin was made and its weight. To prevent against forgers later they created little marks and bumps on the edges so the can scratch or cut a little piece off to check if the coins was legit or false. Today’s coins are value more by what they represent.
 The value of what they’re made of and what they represent. And the value that is printed in us. That’s why we talk about other people, like trading coins in the market. We can make them more or less valuable.

🇧🇷 Palavras seguem caminhos que nem sempre são os mesmos. O significado pode ser igual, mas a forma diferente. O mesmo acontece com o fruto das sementes. O mesmo fruto pode ter nomes diferentes dependendo da localidade. Mesmo sabor e forma, mas diferente experiência para quem prova.
 A palavra de hoje é MOEDA. A origem vem de cerca de 390 a.C., quantos gauleses tentaram invadir o Capitólio em Roma. Os gansos sagrados da deusa Juno, assustados, “avisaram” os soldados do templo e eles puderam expulsar os invasores. A atitude dos gansos foi chamada de “Juno Moneta”, que quer dizer “o espírito de Juno avisou”. Moeda vem do latim moneta e significa “avisar, aconselhar”.
 Juno era esposa de Júpiter e a deusa protetora de Roma. Por libertar a cidade dos seus invasores foram criadas pequenas imagens em círculos de metal para homenagea-la. O templo de Juno se tornou o local onde as moedas eram cunhadas, sendo conhecido como “A Casa da Moeda”. Com o tempo aquelas moedas passaram a ter o seu valor no mercado e foram adotadas no império, com a imagem do imperador de um lado e o seu selo de outro. Para evitar falsificações as bordas foram elevadas para poderem ser raspadas e identificar do que eram feitas. Hoje, moedas valem mais pelo que representam.
 O valor do que são feitas e o valor que representam. E tem o valor que é impresso em nós. Por isso falamos das outras pessoas, como troca de moeda no mercado. Podemos faze-las valer mais ou menos.

ZIPLOC

🇺🇸 There’re few things that come to our life and become indispensable with time. Ziploc is one of them. At first, it seemed a luxury object, but once we start to use we see the huge value it has and the options to use it’s almost unlimited, specially because it’s easy to storage and to handle.
 One of the ziploc’s advantages is the fact it can be used in the fridge, the freezer, the microwave and even to be boiled in a pan. More and more parents are using it to bag their kids’ lunch, to organize toys and little objects. Ziplocs can even be used to protect and carry paper documentation, bagging laboratory samples and with imagination and creativity we can find lots of possibilities for its use.
 The main idea on those bags is to preserve the content inside. Specially when we’re thinking on food. The system allows to create a vacuum, which helps to better preserve and extend the food’s expiration time, when it's storage in the fridge. We live times when people are talking about the importance of reinventing ourselves, of changing and transforming who we are and it’ll be good if we thing about the essence of our own life too. Before change who you are, make sure you’re able to preserve what makes you unique, which is your best characteristic, and make it last longer. Be careful with all the influence in the world.
 Everyone has personal characteristics. It’s not about qualities or defects, it’s about learning how to make a good use of our them. Plastic bags may be indispensable, but aren’t we much more valuable than they?

🇧🇷 Algumas coisas chegam na nossa vida e se tornam indispensáveis. Ziploc é uma delas. No começo parecia um objeto de luxo, mas quando começamos a usar, vemos a grande utilidade e quase ilimitadas opções de uso que tem, especialmente porque é fácil de mexer e para guardar coisas.
 Uma das vantagens do ziplock é o fato de poder ser usado na geladeira, no freezer, no microondas e até para ferver na panela. Cada vez mais, pais estão usando ziplocs no lanche dos filhos, para organizar brinquedos e pequenos objetos. Também podem ser usados para proteger e carregar papeis, embalar exames de laboratório e com imaginação e criatividade da pra encontrar outras possibilidades de uso.
 A idéia principal dos saquinhos é preservar o conteúdo guardado. Especialmente se for comida. O sistema cria um vácuo, que ajuda a melhor preservar o prazo de validade da comida, quando guardada na geladeira. Vivemos em tempos onde pessoas falam sobre a importância de nos reinventarmos, de mudar e transformar quem somos e seria bom se pensássemos sobre a nossa essência também. Antes de mudar que você é, tenha certeza de poder preservar o que torna você único, que é a sua melhor característica, e fazer com que dure bastante. Cuidado com toda a influência que existe no mundo.
 Todos têm características pessoais. Não se trata de qualidade ou defeitos, mas de como aprendemos a fazer bom uso delas. Sacos plásticos podem ser indispensáveis, mas não valemos muito mais que eles?
