UNITING LEADERS // UNINDO LÍDERES

“We need a leader to unite a group of followers. What would we need to unite a group of leaders?”

Leaders are essencial in every dimension. Leaders make the difference. Leaders are instruments of transformation. Leaders inspire followers. Leaders create movement to reach goals.

Beside all of that, leaders have the power to influence followers and develop the spirit of unity so everybody can perform as one. It is hard to find a group of people doing good without a good leadership. Now, what about a group of leaders? Have you seen a group of leaders performing? It is not the same as a group of followers. It is a potential environment for competition, confrontation and disputes. Not mentioning the problem with the high level of ego.

Leaders are moved by purpose. When they develop the vision of a higher purpose, higher than all of them, they become motivated to reach it out.

“Precisamos de um líder para unir um grupo de seguidores. Do que precisaríamos para unir um grupo de líderes?”

Líderes são essenciais em todas as dimensões. Líderes fazem a diferença. Líderes são agentes de transformação. Líderes inspiram seguidores. Líderes criam movimentos para alcançar objetivos.

Além de tudo isso, líderes têm o poder de influenciar seguidores e desenvolver o espírito de unidade para que todos atuem como um. É difícil achar um grupo de pessoas indo bem sem uma boa liderança. Agora, e se for um grupo de líderes? Você já viu um grupo de líderes atuando? Não é o mesmo que um grupo de seguidores. Existe um grande potencial para competição, confrontos e disputas. Sem mencionar o problema com o alto nível do ego.

Líderes são movidos por propósito. Quando desenvolvem a visão de um propósito maior, inclusive que eles próprios, se tornam motivados para alcançá-lo.

É isso.

JOURNEY AND LEADERSHIP // JORNADA E LIDERANÇA

“Those who start a journey and do not allow themselves to be transformed are not ready for today’s leadership”.

Maybe the top challenge to contemporary life is not facing changes, but facing resistance to changes. Even change being a very explored topic there is always a great number of people expressing problems to deal with them.

Maybe accepting changes is not the most important subject on this. This is a done deal. Those who are still struggling in accepting changes are out of the journey already. Now it is time to embrace change, time to adapt ourselves to them. It is a practical thing. I am talking about identifying changes and finding a way to incorporate them in the correspondent aspect of life. Otherwise, we will not be ready for today's reality and for the future.

Leaders are the agents of change. They are the first ones to bring new realities and turn them part of our common life. That is the kind of leader we need.

“Aqueles que começam uma jornada e não permitem serem transformados, não estão prontos para a liderança de hoje em dia”.

Talvez o maior desafio para a vida contemporânea não seja enfrentar mudanças, mas enfrentar resistência às mudanças. Mesmo sendo um assunto tão explorado sempre existe um grande número de pessoas tendo dificuldade com mudanças.

Talvez aceitar mudanças não seja mais um assunto importante. Já ficou pra trás. Os que ainda estão sofrendo para aceitar mudanças já estão fora da jornada. Agora é o tempo de assimilar as mudanças, tempo de nos adaptar a elas. É uma coisa prática. Estou falando sobre identificar as mudanças e encontrar uma maneira de incorporá-las aos aspectos correspondentes da vida. Se não fora assim, não estaremos prontos para a realidade de hoje e do futuro.

Líderes são os agentes da mudança. Eles são os primeiros a trazer novas realidade e torná-las parte da vida comum. Esse é o tipo de liderança que precisamos.

EASTER IS BUSINESS // PÁSCOA É NEGÓCIO

🇺🇸 What? A lot of people won’t like to hear that, although it’s hard to cover the reality behind this time of the year, when most people runs after chocolate. The story of Easter is way more than that, but it has also an important perspective for the moment the world is facing now and for what’s going to become after this.
  Easter started for the hebrews after living more than 400 years as slaves in Egypt. It was the day when the entire people went free to live in a new land. They had to turn down the life style they were used to live to accept new standards. Once living in houses, now they’ll have to face to live in tents, eat a different food, adapt to the life in a desert, after lived for so long in cities. Easter was a point towards a new phase.
  We’ve just come to a new point towards to a new phase. Two questions are taking most of the people’s attention: “when this moment will end?”, and “what life will become after this?” The first one has no answer yet. To the second one the answer is: different. New practices like, social distancing, body protection, online activities will take more space. We’ll have to adapt our life to that. We’ll have to adapt our business to that. New and renewed actions are the tools to successfully face what’s coming next.
  It’s the time for a new social passover, across the red sea of sorrow, death, misery and fear. To move on and stay alive, smell the desert, taste the sand and embrace the sun. There’s life on the other shore.

🇧🇷 Como é que é? Tem gente que não vai gostar disso, embora seja difícil negar a realidade por detrás deste tempo, quando a maioria corre atrás de chocolate. A história da Páscoa é mais que isso, mas também tem uma perspectiva para o momento que o mundo vive hoje e para o que vai acontecer depois.
  A Páscoa começou para os hebreus depois de viverem mais de 400 anos como escravos no Egito. Foi o dia quando saíram para viver numa nova terra. Tiveram que abandonar o estilo de vida que tinham e aceitar novos padrões. Antes viviam em casas, agora viveriam em tendas, comeriam comida diferente, se adaptariam à vida no deserto, depois de viverem em cidades. Foi um ponto para uma nova fase.
  Chegamos a um novo ponto para uma nova fase. Duas perguntas tomam a maior parte das atenções: “quando isso vai acabar?”, e “como vai ser a vida depois disso?” A primeira ainda não tem resposta. A resposta da segunda é: diferente. Novas práticas como, distanciamento social, proteção corporal, atividades online vão ocupar mais espaço. Teremos que adaptar a vida a isso. Teremos que adaptar os negócios a isso. Novas e renovadas ações serão as ferramentas para ter sucesso daqui pra frente.
  É o tempo de uma nova páscoa social, através do mar vermelho da tristeza, morte, miséria e medo. Para seguir e sobreviver, cheire do deserto, prove a areia, absorva o sol. Existe vida na margem do outro lado.  
É isso.

GRATITUDE // GRATIDÃO

🇺🇸 When a new Monday comes what feeling do you have in your heart? Are you excited or wishing for the time to stop and hold you a little bit longer on the weekend? The idea is not to sabotage our mind. Weekend is gone, we had good time and now we have new opportunities right in front of us.
 Usually we’re concerned about what we’re going to do to make good days every day. If you’re concerned about your days it’s ok, but sometimes the best option is when we’re concerned about someone else’s day. Do a good thing for someone else and you’ll see the power to transform your own day. I’d like to suggest something here: gratitude. Not for what happened to you, but gratitude for someone in your life.
 Gratitude is a virtue we should develop every day, but it could be more specific and direct. We can be grateful for a new day, for the sun or the night and for life. It’s good, we really should. But the real power of gratitude is when we’re focus on someone specific. To develop gratitude we need to name the person and the reason why we’re grateful for. If you can do that it’s good, but if you want it to be great after you named it you must say it. Go to that person, or contact him/her. You don’t need to write a poem to declare your gratitude for him/her. Just say the reason you’re grateful for. I’ll see how powerful is when we do that.
 We’re opening the season to be grateful. Let’s make this time of the year the beginning of a new phase in our life: to live under the gratitude power. If you want to try this, today I’m grateful for your decision.

🇧🇷 Quando mais uma segunda-feira chega, qual o sentimento no seu coração? Empolgação ou deseja que o tempo pare e mantenha você um pouco mais no fim de semana? A idéia é não sabotar a mente. Fim de semana já foi, foram bons momentos e agora temos novas oportunidades diante de nós cada dia.
 Normalmente nos preocupamos sobre o que vamos fazer para temos dias bons cada dia. Preocupar com nossos dias é normal, mas às vezes a melhor opção é quando nos preocupamos com o dia de outra pessoa. Faça algo bom por alguém e vai ver o poder transformador no seu próprio dia. Gostaria de sugerir algo aqui: gratidão. Não por algo que aconteceu a você, mas gratidão por alguém na sua vida.
 Gratidão é uma virtude que deveríamos desenvolver cada dia, mas tem que ser mais específico e direto. Podemos ser gratos por um novo dia, pelo sol ou a noite e pela vida. Realmente deveríamos. Mas o poder da gratidão é quando focamos em alguém específico. Para desenvolver gratidão precisamos identificar a pessoa e a razão por sermos gratos. Se fizer isso vai ser bom, mas se quiser que seja ótimo, depois de identificar é preciso dizer à pessoa. Contacte a pessoa. Não precisa escrever um poema pra declarar sua gratidão. Apenas diga a razão pela qual é grato. Você vai ver o quanto isso é poderoso.
 Estamos iniciando a temporada da gratidão. Vamos tornar essa época do ano no início de uma nova fase da vida: viver sob o poder da gratidão. Se você deseja experimentar, eu sou grato pela sua decisão hoje.

JUICE MAKER // CENTRÍFUGA

🇺🇸 I have a juice maker at home and I love it. I love what it does and how it does. Personally, I like to take the fruits or vegetables, cut home a put in the juice maker to see the juice filling the cup. I even like to wash it after use it and leave it in perfect use for the next time. I’ll tell you what it so interesting to me in that.
 I believe in transformation. For me is one of the most fascinating experiences in life, is when I see anything being transformed into something else. Specially when I see transformation in a person. We were created with the capability to grow, to develop, to improve and I see transformation as part of these processes. And that’s what I see when I am using the juice maker. I see transformation.
 But the interesting thing is that in this case the transformation is not about turning the fruit into something different. It’s the transformation of its condition. When a fruit becomes a liquid it’s because that liquid was in the fruit. The machine only work to bring out that part of the fruit. I don’t believe people can be transformed into something they are not. What happens is we can bring out of people characteristics they have and those characteristics can represent a transformation in them. If we’re able to make people show the best of what they are we create a power to make them love the best of what they can do.
 There’s no better felling when we love what we’re doing. The results are always amazing too. But people are not like fruit. After squeeze a fruit, we trow it off. We should never trow people off. Never!

🇧🇷 Tenho uma centrífuga em casa e amo ela. Amo o que ela faz e como ela faz. Pessoalmente, gosto de pegar frutas e vegetais, cortá-los e colocar na centrífuga pra ver o suco encher o copo. Até gosto de lavar a centrífuga pra deixar ela pronta pra usar de novo. Vou dizer porque acho tão interessante isso.
 Acredito na transformação. Pra mim, é uma das mais fascinantes experiências na vida. Quando vejo qualquer coisa sendo transformada em algo mais. Especialmente quando vejo transformação em uma pessoa. Fomos criados com a capacidade de crescer, desenvolver, melhorar e vejo transformação como parte desses processos. É o que eu vejo quando uso a centrífuga. Vejo transformação.
 Mas é interessante que nesse caso a transformação não é tornar a fruta em algo diferente do que ela é. É a transformação de uma condição. Quando a fruta se torna em líquido é porque o líquido estava dentro dela. A máquina só extraiu aquela parte da fruta. Não creio que pessoas se transformem em algo que não sejam. O que acontece é que podemos extrair das pessoas características que elas têm e essas características podem representar transformação para elas. Se formos capazes de ajudar as pessoas a mostrarem o seu melhor, criamos um poder que fará com que amem o que de melhor podem fazer.
 Não tem melhor sentimento do que fazer o que se ama. Resultados sempre vão ser incríveis. Mas frutas não são pessoas. Esprememos a fruta e jogamos o resto fora. Não fazemos isso com pessoas. Nunca!

PLATE // PRATO

🇺🇸 Words will bring a result. I believe in words. Have you gone through the experience fo hearing someone saying something to you and that word keeps echoing inside your mind? It’s their power for transforming. Just like a seed in the soil. The life echoes underground making the seed be transformed into a new life.
 It can be in nature and in grammar, life has its cycles with highs and lows, good and bad, giving the excitement and shaping life with variety and surprises. Since our birth we experience constantly transformation in every aspect, physical, mental, cultural, emotional, relational. I think if it were different life would be so boring and unhappy. What makes life amazing is that it’s not flat, not like a plate.
 PLATE is today’s word. The meaning is very simple. The origin is greek and means “flat”. That’s easy to understand. What’s also easy to understand is that would be horrible to eat in an uneven surface. How would we scoop the soup, or eat rice with a fork? No chance. So, sometimes we need a stable, regular, plain in life. I love a roller coaster, but not much more than 40 seconds. I can have fun ridding up and down, but I would be safe stepping my feet on an even ground. And that’s how we can enjoy life even more, going through all its levels and experiences. Excitement, stability and continuity. 
 Even plates are not totally boring and flat. There’s soups plates, bowls, desserts. Plates in different shapes, sizes and colors. Life can be the same, we can make something different out of everything.

🇧🇷 Palavras vão dar resultado. Acredito nas palavras. Já aconteceu de alguém falar algo pra você e as palavras ficarem ecoando na sua mente? Esse é o poder de transformação que as palavras têm. Como sementes no solo. A vida ecoa debaixo da terra fazendo a semente se transformar em nova vida.
 Pode ser na natureza e na gramática, a vida tem os ciclos com altos e baixos, bom e ruim, criando empolgação e dando formas variadas e surpreendentes. Desde nosso nascimento experimentamos constante transformação em todos aspectos, físico, mental, cultural, emocional e relacional. Se fosse diferente ia ser muito chato. O que torna a vida feliz é que ela não é chata, como é um prato.
 PRATO é a palavra de hoje. O significado é simples. A origem é grega e significa “chato, plano”. Fácil de entender. Também é fácil de entender que seria horrível comer numa superfície irregular. Como pegaríamos a sopa com a colher ou arroz com o garfo? Sem chance. Às vezes precisamos algo estável, regular, plano na vida. Amo montanha russa, mas não mais do que por 40 segundos. Posso me divertir indo pra cima e pra baixo, mas só me sinto mais seguro com os pés no chão. É assim que curtimos a vida ainda mais, passando por todas os níveis e experiências. Empolgação, estabilidade e continuidade.
 Mas pratos não são tão chatos assim. Têm os pratos fundos, de sobremesa, tigelas. Com formas, cores e tamanhos diferentes. A vida é assim também, podemos fazer algo diferente de tudo.

PLUGGING INTO THE OUTLET // LIGANDO NA TOMADA

🇺🇸 Since humanity learned how to use electricity our live has been changed. Nights became a new part of our time and people have a lot to discover on it. We started to do things faster, used resources to supporting live, since freezers to hospital machines. Electricity keep things running around us.
 Now it seems we can’t live anymore without outlets around us. People come to new places, get inside cars and the first question is: do you have an outlet? When we build buildings we plan to have lots of outlets available in the walls. Even though we still plug adaptors on the outlets so we can connect more devices on them. It’s totally part of our life in almost everything we do.
 Even a very common thing like plugging things into outlets is facing a transformation. Now we have wireless charges ou inductive charging. This old technology is now being used to fulfill its original purpose, when James C. Maxwell predicted electricity would be shared wirelessly, in 1864. Old habits will be living with new ones. Sometimes is the best way to adapt, to engage into transformation. The more we can connect ourselves into how live is changing, the better we’ll find out the best way to enjoy life. Specially because we don’t know how much we’re going to live and how many new things we’ll see in life.
 Every time you plug something into the outlet, or place it on a wireless charger consider, how plugged are you into life? It’s not possible to live in the future, it’s complicated to live stuck in the time that has passed.

🇧🇷 Desde que a humanidade aprendeu a usar a eletricidade a vida mudou. As noites se tornaram uma nova parte de nossas horas e as pessoas querem muito descobrir mais sobre elas. Fazemos coisas mais rápido, amparemos a vida com geladeiras até aparelhos hospitalares. A vida segue com a eletricidade.
 Agora parece que não conseguimos viver sem tomadas ao redor. Pessoas chegam a novos lugares, entram em carros e logo querem saber onde tem uma tomada. Quando construímos prédios planejamos muitas tomadas pelas paredes. Até plugamos adaptadores nas tomadas para podermos conectar mais aparelhos nelas. Já é parte de nossa vida em quase tudo que fazemos.
 Mesmo algo tão comum como ligar na tomada está sendo transformado. Temos carregadores sem fio. Essa velha tecnologia está sendo usada para cumprir seu propósito original, como predisse James C. Maxwell, em 1864. Velhos hábitos e novos hábitos vão conviver. As vezes a melhor maneira de adaptar é se envolver com a transformação. Quanto mais pudermos nos conectar com as mudanças da vida, melhor descobriremos como melhor desfruta-la. Especialmente porque não o quanto ainda iremos viver, nem quantas novas coisas veremos na vida.
 Toda vez que ligar algo na tomada, ou colocar no carregador sem fio considere, quão plugado está com a vida? Não da pra viver no futuro e é complicado viver preso a um tempo que já passou.

SESAME STREET // VILA SÉSAMO

🇺🇸 If you ask me about what I liked to watch on TV on my childhood, there’s not doubt for me to answer: Sesame Street! That show was a reference of joy and support. I’m pretty sure who has watched the program would say the same. It’s unforgettable! (Watch the video)
 Now New York city brought the program closer to reality. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first broadcasted show, the city named the west side of the 63rd street as Sesame Street. It’s the intersection of W 63rd and Broadway. It’s been 10 years since the city named the street temporarily and now fans can enjoy having a real piece of that wonderful imaginary show. (See the map at the the end of this post)
 Fifty years! It’s the longest children’s show running on TV. It started in 1966 with Joan Ganz Cooney and Lloyd Morrisett wanting to help children to learn before they go to school. They though once children would watch TV anyway, why didn't take advantage of that and do something good for them? So for 3 years they prepared the idea and on November 10th of 1969 the first program was aired on TV. Sesame Street is a good example of how can we well relate different generations. That’s a challenge! People say the conflict of generations is a tough thing to handle, but it’s not impossible. Of course we need to allow transformation to happen, but we can still be relevant to people through out the time.
 The most important generation is the one that understands the others. Could we do that for another 50 years. By the way, art my fist day in Kindergarten I wore Big Bird’s T-shirt. That got me a lot of friends!

🇧🇷 Se você me perguntar o que eu gostava de ver na TV na minha infância, não vou ter dúvida em dizer: Vila Sésamo! O programa era uma referência de alegria e ajuda. Tenho certeza de que quem viu o programa vai dizer o mesmo que eu. É inesquecível! (Veja o vídeo)
 Agora a cidade de New York trouxe o programa mais perto da realidade. Celebrando os 50 anos da transmissão do primeiro programa, a cidade nomeou a parte oeste da 63 Street de Sesame Street. É a intercessão da 63 com a Broadway. O nome tinha sido dado há 10 anos temporariamente e agora os fãs vão poder curtir um pedaço real desse maravilhoso programa imaginário.  50 anos! É o programa infantil que está a mais tempo na TV. Começou em 1966 com Joan Ganz Cooney e Lloyd Morrisett. O primeiro programa foi ao ar em 10 de novembro de 1969. No Brasil começou a ser transmitido em 12 de outubro de 1972 e a partir de 1973 ganhou um formato “brasileiro" com personagens e quadros criados pela TV brasileira. Hoje o programa é chamado de Sésamo e transmitido na TV Cultura. Vila Sésamo é um bom exemplo de como se relacionar com as gerações. Pessoas dizem que o conflito de gerações é difícil de lidar, mas não é impossível. Claro que precisamos permitir que transformações aconteçam, mas ainda podemos ser relevantes às pessoas com o passar do tempo.   
 A geração mais importante é a que entende as outras. Poderíamos fazer isso por mais 50 anos? A propósito, no primeiro dia do Jardim da Infância fui com a camiseta do Garibaldo e fiz o maior sucesso!

ENCOUNTER / ENCONTRO

🇺🇸 “No man is an island”. This is a quote from John Donne in the book Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions and Seuerall Steps in my Sicknes - Meditation XVII, 1624. It’s been a long time and he knew nothing about smartphones and social media. But the principle is still the same. People need people.
 It’s hard to say how long we’ll struggle to adapt with the technology era, to find the best way to live with all those new ways to do things and with the new things we do in our way, but more and more we read, see and listen about the dissatisfaction with how we’re becoming hostages from the control of the technology, specially over the younger generations. We all hope all this could head towards solutions more than into problems. It’s important to keep searching for the best way to live life.
 If no one is an island (let’s be inclusive here), why the tendency for people to feel comfortable with distance? I hear people complaining about we’re living a crisis of commitment, which is something that I disagree. People are still committed, but not for the things we expect them to be. Influence is changing and today’s word is for us to open our eyes and to deal with this situation. The word is ENCOUNTER. An encounter is more than a meeting. It’s an event that has the power to impact who’s involved on it. It’s not casual, not superficial, not boring. Once we are in an encounter our needs are changed and fulfilled as a result of that experience. For some people is transcendental. It’s transformational.
 Maybe we are missing this. We can be living and neglecting that people need to break that “island” condition. People need an encounter that will rock their world. What kind of encounter could it be?

 É difícil dizer quanto tempo ainda vamos lutar para nos adaptarmos com a era tecnológica e achar a melhor maneira de viver com as novas coisas e novos costumes, mas cada vez mais lemos, vemos e ouvimos da insatisfação com o quanto temos nos tornado reféns do controle da tecnologia, especialmente sobre as novas gerações. Todos esperamos que isso possa nos levar a soluções mais do que a problemas. É importante continuarmos buscando pela melhor maneira de viver a vida.
 Se ninguém é um ilha (vamos ser inclusivos), por que a tendência das pessoas se sentirem confortáveis com a distância? Ouço pessoas reclamando que vivemos uma crise de comprometimento, o que eu discordo. As pessoas se comprometem, mas não com o que esperamos que vão se comprometer. A influencia está mudando e a palavra de hoje é pra abrir os olhos para lidar com isso. A palavra é ENCONTRO. Um encontro mais do que comum. É um evento que tem o poder de impactar quem se envolve nele. Não é casual, superficial, nem chato. Quando estamos nele nossas necessidades são modificadas e preenchidas. Para algumas pessoas é transcendental. É transformador.
 Talvez estejamos perdendo isso. Estar vivendo e negligenciando que pessoas precisam quebrar a condição de “ilha”. Precisam de um encontro que abale seu mundo. Que tipo de encontro poderia ser?
