🇺🇸 A lot of people are not familiarized with the concept of eating meal paid-by-pound. It’s a very interest concept to have a nice meal and not worry if you paid too much for the food you ate. There’s some situation where at the beginning is wonderful, but after eating you feel like you paid more that you ate.
This concept of pay-per-pound buffet was invented in Brazil and became very popular there. In Brazilian culture the meal, specially lunch time, is a special occasion. Brazilians can’t live with the idea of “food was't enough”. Tables must to be full of every kind of food and people must eat as much as they can handle and there’d be always someone asking you to eat “a little bit more” and giving you a portion to go.
The problem is that an all-you-can-eat buffet is expensive, because there’s a lot of wasting and the owner has to add that in the price and most of the people is not crazy hungry to eat all. So someone in somewhere came up with this very creative idea of you put what is enough for you in your plate, weight it and pay for the proportion. If you eat more you pay more, if less you pay less. Everybody wins. Some people consider life as a competition, which isn’t. Life is sharing, because someone’s defeat can mean something bad even for the winner. If you’re looking for a better way of living, win-win is the way.
That’s possible, but is difficult. When we have a big plate in our hands we have the temptation to fill every inch of it with food. Like being in front a buffet, win-win requires us to give up some food we don’t need.

🇧🇷 Fora do Brasil as pessoas não estão muito familiarizadas com a idéia de comer comida por quilo. Pelo menos não nos Estados Unidos. Acho que é uma questão mais de cultura mesmo. Alguns se familiarizam mais fácil, enquanto outros resistem. A idéia é muito boa e deixa uma sensação de justiça.
Não sei dizer quem inventou nem onde foi inventado, mas no pouco que pesquisei deu pra notar que é algo realmente relacionado com a cultura brasileira. Essa coisa que brasileiros têm de fartura na hora da refeição, de que é melhor sobrar do que faltar. Pagar por quilo ajuda a aliviar a sensação não tão agradável que se tem quando, depois de pagar a conta, pensar que pagou bem mais do que comeu.
O problema com os serviços de buffet é o desperdício de comida. No final a comida que não se come tem que ser incluída no preço também. Nem todo mundo come “feito um condenado” pra fazer valer tudo que pagou. Já pra quem come pouco não compensa. Nessa caso, tranquiliza a cabeça de todo mundo, por saber que o que foi pago foi proporcional ao que se comeu. Todo mundo sai ganhando. Alguns consideram a vida como uma competição, mas não é. Viver é partilhar, porque a derrota de alguém pode também causar mal ao vencedor. Pra quem quer uma maneira melhor de viver, “ganha-ganha” é opção.
É possível, mas é difícil. Quando temos um prato grande nas mãos somos tentados a encher ele com comida. Como estar diante de um buffet, ganha-ganha requer abrir mão da comida que não precisamos.

🇺🇸 Recall is a form of protection in the industry that protects the consumer and the industry of damages and legal battles. It’s very used in the automotive and food industries. Basically the manufacturer finds the problem, identifies the production where the problem occurred and replace for a good one.
I’ve been familiarized with recalls in the automotive industry and it seems to be an act of responsibility. Being responsible has its price, but nothing pays more than a company that takes care of its clients, specially when the life is at risk. Of course there’re lesson to learn from that, because lives are being put at risk and that sound like a huge sign of alert on what’s the nature of business a company is doing.
Recently the food industry is doing more and more recalls. In June 2019 there were 2 recalls from 2 different wheat flour manufacturers in less than a week. Almost 20,000 products possibly contaminated by E. coli., a coliform bacterium, that causes damages to the human body. Sometimes there’re meat recalls and pet food too. A big problem is, once we buy food we consume it soon. In this case the recalls seem less of a responsibility act and more of a struggling for profit above everything. It looks more like, because the industry can announce recalls later, they’re caring less about the responsibility they have with our life.
A recall should be a time when we reconsider what we’re doing and make a very important decision: what kind of responsibility we’ll take? When the light turns amber is the moment to choose to be responsible.

🇧🇷 Recall é uma forma de proteção na indústria que protege o consumidor e a própria indústria de prejuízos e batalhas legais. É muito usado nas indústrias automotiva e alimentícia. Basicamente o produtor encontra o problema, identifica a produção em que estava e substitui por um que seja bom.
Estou familiarizado com recalls na indústria automotiva e acho que é um ato de responsabilidade. Ser responsável tem seu preço, mas nada paga mais do que uma empresa que cuida dos seus clientes, especialmente quando existe risco para a vida. Isso traz uma lição, porque vidas estão sendo postas em risco e soa como um grande sinal de alerta sobre a natureza do negócio que a empresa está fazendo.
Ultimamente a indústria alimentícia tem feito mais recalls. Em junho de 2019 foram 2 recalls de 2 produtores de farinha de trigo nos EUA, em menos de 1 semana. Quase 20 mil produtos possivelmente contaminados pela bactéria E. coli., que causa males ao corpo. Às vezes têm recalls de carnes e de comida para bichos. O problema é que quando compramos comida tendemos a consumi-la logo. Nesse caso o recall parece menos de responsabilidade e mais interesse em lucro acima de tudo. Parece que por poder fazer recalls depois, estão se importando menos com a responsabilidade pela nossa vida.
Um recall deveria ser a hora para reconsiderar o que estamos fazendo e tomar uma decisão: que tipo de responsabilidade vamos assumir? Quando a luz fica amarela é o momento de escolher ser responsável.
