HOPE AND FEAR // ESPERANÇA E MEDO

“It requires more energy to spread hope than fear”.

No, this is not a message to kill hope or motivation. This is a message to show how much we need to do to make a better world. Hope and fear are related to possibilities. Both can happen depending on what we do to allow it.

In fact, the intention here is to add a little more energy on spreading hope. Although hope and fear are possibilities, they spread in a different pace. Because our mind is more focused on defending our survival than on expanding our possibilities, we are more tempted to react to the signs of fear. Not only this, but we are also more willing to share fear to others. And so the chain of fear grows. This is why when we are trying to spread hope we need to create events, shows, invite famous people to join, use all types of media channels, develop a high level of attraction, which ends up making it more difficult.

That is why we can't give up. Maybe, if we find a better way to make our energies more productive and lasting, we can turn that game around.

“Se requer mais energia para espalhar esperança do que medo”.

Não, esta não é uma mensagem para acabar com a esperança. É uma mensagem para mostrar o quanto precisamos fazer para melhorar o mundo. Esperança e medo tem a ver com possibilidades. Ambos podem acontecer dependendo do que fizermos para permitir.

Na verdade, a intenção aqui é adicionar um pouco mais de energia em espalhar esperança. Embora sejam possibilidades, se espalham em ritmo diferente. Porque nossa mente é mais focada em defender nossa sobrevivência do que expandir nossas possibilidades, somos mais tentados a reagir aos sinais de medo. Não só isso, também somos mais dispostos a partilhar o medo com outros. Por isso quando queremos espalhar esperança temos que criar eventos, shows, convidar famosos para participar, usar todos os tipos de canais de mídia, desenvolver um alto nível de atração, o que faz ficar mais difícil.

Por isso não podemos desistir. Talvez, se acharmos uma maneira melhor de tornar nossas energias mais produtivas e duradouras, poderemos virar esse jogo.

AGONY // AGONIA

🇺🇸 Time has a huge effect in the plantation process. In fact, most of the effect happens in who is planting. Sowing the seed and wait until the time for the reaping is an act of faith. We see what’s going to happen in the future through expectations and expectations can create positive or negative reactions in us.
 One of the reactions, which we use to consider negative, is AGONY. This is today’s word. The idea of agony is a bad feeling about something that could happen or is happening. The real meaning of agony is “contest”. The word comes from the greek agonia, that comes from agon meaning “assembly”, which comes from ago, meaning “to guide”. There’s an interesting aspect why agony means a bad feeling.
 In the ancient Greece people liked to watch battles in stadiums, like we watch games today. The battles were called agonia, because it was where people agon, get together. While watching the fight, seeing the fighters killing one to another, the crowd develop a feeling, cheering and rooting for one of the fighters. That feeling used to create an expectative of what the result would be. “Is my fighter going to win or be killed?” That reaction was related to the contest, the agonia, and became popular as a bad feeling.
 Agony is the opposite of faith. Faith is the assurance of what’s going to happen, agony is the uncertainty. Agony leads to stress. At the end it has to do with the object of your hopes and your expectations.

🇧🇷 O tempo tem um grande efeito no processo de plantação. Na verdade o maior efeito acontece em quem planta. Semear e esperar pelo tempo da colheita é um ato de fé. Vemos o que vai acontecer no futuro através das expectativas e expectativas podem criar reações positivas or negativas em nós.

 Agonia é o oposto da fé. Fé é a certeza daquilo que vai acontecer, enquanto que agonia é a incerteza. Agonia leva ao estresse. No final depende do objeto no qual você coloca as esperanças e expectativas.

CHEVROTAIN

🇺🇸 Have you ever heard about a chevrotain? Do you know what it is? I’ve heard for the first time today, the day I’m writing this text. Chevrotain is an animal, a mammal, from the Tragulidae family, which are the animals with hooves. The chevrotain’s appearance is like a mix of a deer with a mouse and they’re tiny.
 In fact chevrotains are the smallest hoofed animals in the world. Its natural habitat is in south and southeast Asia, most common in Vietnam. The silver-backed chevrotain was practically considered extinct, due to the last time a specimen was seen is 25 years ago. Now a small group os silver-backed chevrotains was photographed in Vietnam, which was a great reason of joy for the environmental groups.
 It’s hard to live in a world where the dominant specie is responsible for most of the destruction in the planet. Human beings are killing, devastating, eliminating forms of life with the minimum consideration possible. All the efforts that have been done for environmental organizations are totally worth, although for some many species it’s just not enough. But when something, like the reappearance of the silver-backed chevrotain, happens make all the efforts worthy. Isn’t how you feel when you meet with a loved friend again, after many years without seeing that friend? It’s a great pleasure to find something that was lost.
 Losses are always bringing sorrow to our life. Some losses kill hope. But as a chevrotain can reappear, hope can also be raised again in our heart. When we keep hope, we make ourselves open to surprises.

🇧🇷 Você já ouviu sobre chevrotains? Sabe o que é? A primeira vez que ouvir sobre eles foi hoje, o dia que estou escrevendo este texto. Chevrotain é um animal, mamífero, da família Tragulidae, que são animais com casco. A aparência do chevrotain é de uma mistura de veado com rato e são bem pequenos.
 Na verdade são os menores animais com casco no mundo. Seu habitat natural é o sul e sudeste da Ásia, mais em comum no Vietnã. O chevrotain-de-costas-prateadas era praticamente considerados extintos, pelo fato do último espécime ter sido visto ha 25 anos. Agora um pequeno grupo de chevrotain-de-costas-prateadas foi fotografado no Vietnã, o que se tornou motivo de muito alegria para ambientalistas.
 É difícil viver num mundo onde a espécie predominante é responsável pela maior parte da destruição do planeta. Seres humanos estão matando, devastando e eliminante formas de vida com o mínimo de consideração possível. Todos esforços feitos por organizações ambientalistas são válidos, embora para algumas espécies não suficiente. Mas quando algo, como o reaparecimento do chevrotain-de-costas-prateadas, acontece, torna todos esforços válidos. Não é como você se sente quando reencontra uma pessoa querida depois de muitos anos sem vê-la? É uma grande alegria reencontrar algo que se perdeu.
 Perdas entristecem nossa vida. Algumas matam a esperança. Assim como chevrotain reapareceu, a esperança pode ressurgir no coração. Quando mantemos a esperança, nos abrimos para surpresas.

ABSURD // ABSURDO

🇺🇸 For me it’s amazing how a seed can turn into a tree. It seems like a TV cartoon where anything can happens. Where were the tree inside the seed? How can something so small to give something so huge. This is one of the most impressive things in nature. The same is possible to happen with words.
 Amazing is a good word to describe what happens in nature. It’s something huge, but today the word I’m going to write gives a similar idea. The word is ABSURD. Usually we use this word to describe something out of proportions, something huge in the sense of going beyond our expectations, for good or bad, mostly for bad things. If someone does something we don’ts agree we use to say that.
 Absurd comes from two latin words: ab, which means “out, away” and surdus, which means “silent, deaf”. So, originally absurd is something that breaks the silent, causes the reaction to speak and the need for us to express ourselves. Usually this is how we react when something huge happens. We make noise. Making noise can be a powerful weapon. That’s why campaigns like, “Breaking the Silence”, "If you see something, say something” are so important and we should support everyone who has something to say. It’s an absurd to impose silence to oppress people. We shouldn’t ever accept anything like that.
 There’re lots of noises in our world and an important thing to do for the good is to listen to those who are trying to say words of freedom and hope. It’s an absurd what these two conditions can do, in a good way.

🇧🇷 Para mim é incrível como uma semente se transforma numa árvore. É como desenho animado onde tudo pode acontecer. Onde está a árvore dentro da semente? Como algo tão pequeno pode gerar algo tão grande? É uma das coisas mais impressionantes na natureza. O mesmo acontece com as palavras.
 Incrível é uma boa palavra pra descrever o que acontece na natureza. É algo grande, mas hoje vou escrever sobre algo similar. A palavra é ABSURDO. Normalmente usamos a palavra para descrever algo fora das proporções, grande no sentido de ir além das expectativas, tanto boas quanto más, mais más. Se alguém faz algo que nos desagrada normalmente dizemos que é um absurdo.
 Absurdo vem de duas palavras latinas: ab, “fora, além” e surdus, “silêncio”. Originalmente absurdo é algo que quebra o silêncio, causa uma reação de falar e a necessidade de nos expressarmos. Normalmente é assim que reagimos quando algo grande acontece. Fazemos barulho. Fazer barulho pode ser uma arma poderosa. Por isso campanhas como “Quebrando o Silêncio”, “Se ver algo, diga algo”, são tão importantes e deveríamos apoiar todos que tem algo a dizer. É um absurdo impor o silêncio como forma de oprimir pessoas. Nunca deveríamos aceitar absolutamente nada dessa natureza.
 Existe muito barulho pelo mundo e é importante dar atenção às pessoas que tentam dizer palavras de liberdade e esperança. É um absurdo o que essas duas condições podem criar, no bom sentido.

BULLETIN BOARD // MURAL DE ANÚNCIOS

🇺🇸 They are in schools, work places, stations, churches, buildings, even right above my desk. We can see them full or empty. Some are locked. Basic or completely decorated. They speak for us. We believe they have the power to call for people’s attention. We believe they can make the difference in life.
 Am I overstating? I don’t think so. If we do not believe bulletin boards have that power we would get rid of them long time ago. But they’re still there. People are still pinning important messages in them, as if everyone is paying attention to everything in there. Any kind of announcement, with pictures, in colored paper, cut in strips, brings hope that lots of people will respond just because they saw it in there.
 The fact is that every new day bulletin boards are becoming less attractive. They have become part of the wall. We walk in front of them without even notice they are there. We’re paying attention to little screens in our hands. But I’m not blaming smartphones here. I’m just saying that bulletin boards are becoming obsoletes. The interesting thing is even people paying less attention to them, they’re still there. Why? What could be done to change this? In fact this isn’t my point. The point is that there’re some important things in our life, but we’re simply not noticing them anymore. Should we put some sense on that? 
 Maybe it’s not that terrible if we’re talking about bulletin boards, but what if it’s a person? If we’re just walking by not noticing who needs out attention? Did you notice the yellow ribbon on the board photo?

🇧🇷 Estão nas escolas, ambientes de trabalho, estações, igrejas, prédios e até acima da minha mesa. Vemos eles cheios ou vazios. Alguns têm tranca. Básicos e completamente decorados. Eles falam por nós. Acreditamos que têm o poder de atrair a atenção. Acreditamos que podem fazer diferença na vida.
 Estou exagerando? Acho que não. Se não acreditássemos que têm esse poder já teríamos nos livrado deles faz tempo. Mas eles ainda estão lá. Pessoas ainda fincam importantes mensagens neles, como se todos fossem prestar atenção em tudo que está lá. Todo tipo de anúncio, com fotos, em papéis coloridos, em tirinhas, traz a esperança de que muitas pessoas vão responder só porque viram o anúncio lá.
 O fato é que a cada dia mural de anúncios se tornam menos atrativos. Se tornaram parte da parede já. Passamos em frente deles sem sequer notarmos que estão ali. Estamos prestando atenção a pequenas telas em nossas mãos. Não estou culpando smartphones. Só estou dizendo que murais de anúncios estão ficando obsoletos. Interessante é que mesmo prestando menos atenção neles, eles continuam lá. Por que? O que poderia ser feito? Esse não é o meu ponto. Meu ponto é que existem coisas que são parte de nossa vida e simplesmente deixamos de percebe-las. Deveríamos pensar e agir sobre isso.
 Talvez não seja tão terrível em se tratando de mural de anúncios, mas e se for uma pessoa? E se paramos de perceber quem precisa da nossa atenção? Você notou uma fita amarela na foto do mural?

PUNTA CANA

🇺🇸 Punta Cana is located in the east part of Dominican Republic and is considered one of the most pleasurable places for tourism. Every year, above 6 million people use to go to visit the country, of which more than 4 million people go to visit and stay in Punta Cana.
 The main reasons are the beauty of the beaches, the all-inclusive resorts they have and the good weather. People are been attracted for the privilege of enjoy and relax in places with good food, fantastic amenities and friendly people. Among these people it’s me! I'm still looking for the chance to take few days and go there. In my mind it would be one of the greatest trips I’ve even done, until this year.
 From 2018 to 2019, were reported that 10 American citizens died in Dominican Republic and it seems that the deaths are related with hotels staying. There are other reports from people that went there and returned sick to US, claiming they did smell some sort of strong chemical product in the hotel rooms. Some hotels are notifying they are establishing new safety procedures, while local authorities are trying to understand exactly what happened. So far the majority of the deaths seem to be far from be explained, or remain as a mystery. We’re sorry for all who have been sorrow and suffering, hoping they can find peace.
 It’s a challenge to live trying to understand unexplained things and expecting for the answer to come. Strong are those who can live above uncertainty and believe they’ll still see joy overcoming sadness.

🇧🇷 Punta Cana está localizada na parte leste da República Dominicana e é considerado um dos lugares mais aprazíveis para o turismo. Por ano, acima de 6 milhões de pessoas visitam o país, do quais mais de 4 milhões são os que vão se hospedar e fazer turismo em Punta Cana.
 As principais razões são a beleza das praias, os resorts com tudo incluído e o clima maravilhoso. Pessoas são atraídas pelo privilégio de desfrutar os lugares com boa comida, fantásticas instalações, gente amigável e relaxar. Eu estou entre essas pessoas! Ainda espero ter a chance de poder ir passar uns dias lá. Na minha mente vai ser uma das viagens mais legais que eu já fiz. Mas isso até este ano.
 De 2018 a 2019, foram registradas 10 mortes de cidadãos americanos na República Dominicana e as mortes parecem estar relacionadas com os hotéis. Outros turistas retornaram doentes para os EUA, reclamando terem sofrido com algum fator químico nos quartos dos hotéis. Alguns hotéis estão informando que adotaram novas medidas de segurança e as autoridades locais estão tentando entender exatamente o que aconteceu. Até agora a maioria dos casos parecem longe de serem explicados, ou continuam em mistério. Lamentamos pelos que estão tristes e sofrendo e desejamos que encontrem paz.
 É um desafio viver tentando entender coisas inexplicáveis e esperar pelas respostas. Fortes são aqueles que conseguem viver acima da incerteza e acreditam que ainda verão a alegria vencer a tristeza.

HOPING, BUT NOT BELIEVING / ESPERANDO, MAS NÃO ACREDITANDO

🇺🇸 So you go to the supermarket, it’s time to refill your pantry and you get excited there. You keep trowing boxes, bags, packages in the kart, all you think you gonna need, for a while. You leave the building with the good feeling that you did great, in spite of the high prices. Next step is to pack everything inside your cabinets, pantry and freezer. Items start to be pile up on shelves, and then the last frontier: the freezer. You open the door and see that it isn't empty. You forgot to check on it before and now have to fit all the things you just bought inside there too. You hope you can do it, but you don’t believe it will be possible.
 Hope is a strong feeling. It moves a lot of people to fulfill dreams, solve problems and improve life. It’s interesting the way hope influences people’s life. What is hope? It’s a strong assurance? A feeling or a thought? Why it creates this powerful conviction about things that haven’t happened yet? People start to wish for things and to say to themselves that they are going to come through.
 Sometimes we hope, but deep in our heart we don’t believe. It’s a dilema. We see things, we see possibilities and then we look to reality and see no ways for that to become real. Let’s be honest, it’s not just because we hope that what we’re expecting is going to happen. So believing is a huge part of the deal. To believe makes us to do something about it. So which one do you thing is stronger, hope ou faith? Which of them we should invest more? Which one has more power over the other? 
 It’s so good when we can close the freezer door with all the things inside of it! By the way, watch the video I posted here. It’s a good example of what I’m saying.

🇧🇷 Você vai ao supermercado, é hora de reabastecer a casa e você se empolga lá. Vai jogando caixas, sacos e pacotes no carrinho, tudo que acha que vai precisar, por um tempo. Sai da loja com a sensação que fez muito bem, apensar dos altos preços. Próximo passo é guardar tudo dentro dos armários, geladeira e congelador. Vai empilhando tudo nas prateleiras, até a última etapa: o congelador. Abre a porta e vê que não está vazio. Você esqueceu de checar antes de sair e agora tem que encaixar também todas as coisas que comprou dentro dele. Você espera conseguir, mas não acredita que vai ser possível.
 Esperança é um sentimento forte. Move as pessoas para realizar os sonhos, resolver problemas e melhorar a vida. É interessante como ela influencia a vida. O que é esperança? É uma certeza forte? Sentimento ou pensamento? Por que cria essa convicção sobre coisas que ainda não aconteceram? Pessoas começam a desejar coisas e dizer a si mesmas que elas vão se tornar realidade.
 As vezes esperamos, mas no fundo do coração não acreditamos. É um dilema. Vemos as coisas, vemos as possibilidades e então vemos a realidade e não vemos como acontecer. Vamos ser honestos, não é só porque temos esperança, que as coisas vão acontecer. Acreditar é uma parte muito importante do negócio. Acreditar nos faz agir. Então, qual dos dois você acha que é mais forte, esperança ou fé? Em qual dos dois devemos investir mais? Qual dos dois tem maior influência sobre o outro?
 Ë tão bom quando a gente consegue fechar a porta do congelador com tudo dentro! Aliás, assista o vídeo que eu postei aqui. É um bom exemplo do que falei.
