“We can teach once, twice and even more, but the real impact is the connection we make”.

Teaching has a strong impact on those who dedicate their life to help other to learn. It is rewarding seeing other people growing. It doesn't matter if your are teaching children, young people or adults.

One of the goals of teaching is to cause an impact in the apprentice's life, which is not simple and easy. In general, people don't have a natural disposition to be taught. It is the dedication of who is teaching that makes the whole difference. That is the result of creating a connection. We have seen so many experiences of teachers and professors becoming an instrument to transform other people's life, just because they develop a way to connect with those being taught.

In reality, teaching goes beyond school. Each one of us can live this experience in so many situations. Challenges and rewards are always the same.

“Podemos ensinar uma, duas ou mais vezes, mas o impacto de verdade vai ser a conexão que fazemos”.

Ensinar gera um forte impacto nos que dedicam sua vida para ajudar outros a aprender. É recompensador ver outras pessoas crescendo. Não importa se está ensinado crianças, jovens ou adultos.

Um dos objetivos do ensino é causar um impacto na vida do aprendiz, o que não é simples nem fácil. Em geral, as pessoas não têm disposição natural para serem ensinadas. É a dedicação dos que ensinam que faz toda a diferença. Isso é o resultado de criar uma conexão. Temos visto muitas experiências de professores e professoras se tornando um agente de transformação na vida das pessoas, só porque desenvolveram uma maneira de criar uma conexão.

Na verdade, ensinar vai além da escola. Cada um de nós pode viver essa experiência em tantas situações. Os desafios e recompensas são sempre os mesmos.

ETHICS AND TEACHING // ÉTICA E ENSINO

“Let’s not forget that ethics needs to be taught”.

This is a subject that is becoming more and more critical. Organizations and individuals are taking ethics more serious than ever. Ethics is the regulation for respect.

Unfortunately, this is a condition that should not exist. We should be able to show respect naturally and spontaneously. Since we cannot trust our own behavior, as human beings, we need to develop rules of conduct. However,  this is not enough. We also need to teach people those rules and create norms for those to be followed, including punishments in case of disrespect. In fact, punishment is the part that has been more emphasized lately.

It is a mistake to assume people naturally knows principles of ethics. This is not because people are bad, it is because they come from different backgrounds.

“Não vamos esquecer que ética precisa ser ensinada”.

Esse é um assunto que está se tornando cada vez mais crítico. Organizações e indivíduos estão levando a ética mais a sério do que nunca. Ética é a regulamentação do respeito.

Infelizmente, essa é uma condição que não deveria existir. Deveríamos ser capazes de mostrar respeito natural e espontaneamente. Como não podemos confiar em nosso comportamento, como seres humanos, precisamos desenvolver regras de conduta. Mas isso não é tudo. Precisamos ensinar as pessoas essas regras e criar normas para serem seguidas, incluindo punições em caso de desrespeito. Essa é a parte que tem sido mais enfatizada recentemente.

É um erro presumir que as pessoas conheçam naturalmente princípios éticos. Não por serem más, mas porque elas vêm de históricos diferentes.

🇺🇸 Every Monday should be a new challenge. The first thing to be challenged is the routine. We can’t change everything, but there’s no excuse if we want to try something new or different. That’s why a Sparkling Monday is about few things that you can give a try every week. Today is about focus in someone else.
 A word that is getting people’s attention more and more is “sharing”. This is very important. I have something and I don’t mind to give it to someone else. That person has something and is sharing with me. One of the best things to share is knowledge. Everybody has it, in their particular way, which makes interesting when we practice. Sharing knowledge could also be called as teaching.
 It’s not about the formal way of teaching in a class room, neither an opportunity to act as a show off. It can happen in a casual and positive way. Recently I was following a couple arguing about the plural of the word “fungus”. The woman said “funguses” and the man said “fungi”. They started to argue to each other until the man google it and find out it’s “fungi”. The arguing didn’t end there. At that point I mentioned it’s fungi, because it’s from latin and there’re cases for words ended in “us” the plural is with “i”, like fungus/fungi, campus/campi. They appreciated for learning something new and stopped the argument. 
 People are taking their time and joining children or adult educational programs as volunteers, sharing what they know and sharing what they have. It’s not about the argument, it’s about the connection.

🇧🇷 Cada segunda-feira pode ser um novo desafio. A primeira coisa a ser desafiada é a rotina. Não podemos mudar tudo, mas não temos desculpa para não tentar algo novo ou diferente. A Sparkling Monday tem a ver com algumas coisas que você pode tentar cada semana. Hoje é sobre focar em alguém.
 Um palavra que está cada vez mais chamando a atenção é “partilhar”. Isso é muito importante. Tenho algo e não me importo de passar para alguém. Essa pessoa tem algo e partilha comigo. Uma das melhores coisas para partilhar é conhecimento. Tudo mundo tem, de maneira particular, o que torna a prática interessante. Partilhar conhecimento também pode ser chamado de ensinar.
 Não se trata de ensino formal numa sala de aula, nem a oportunidade para dar uma de metido. Pode acontecer de uma maneira casual e positiva. Recentemente acompanhava um casal que discutia sobre o plural de “fungo” (em inglês). A mulher dizia “funguses” e o homem “fungi”. Começaram a discutir até que o homem viu no Google e é “fungi”. Mas a discussão não terminou. Nesse ponto eu mencionei que por ser palavra latina tem casos em que quando termina em “us" o plural é com “i”, como em fungus/fungi, campus/campi. Eles agradeceram por aprenderem algo novo e pararam de discutir.
 Pessoas estão tomando tempo para participar como voluntários em programas de educação de crianças e adultos, partilhando o que sabem. Não se trata da discussão, mas sim da conexão.
