“There is room for individuality in a group, but there is no room for individualism”.

Little details can make a huge difference. This happens specially with some definitions. When we understand the difference, it becomes easier to make a decision and take some actions.

Every individual has particular characteristics, abilities and dynamic. It is important to respect and value that. These personal aspects are components to integrate a group of people, specially when it is related to action. This is what we call individuality. A little different from individuality is individualism. This is a behavior where personal aspects exceed the integration of every member of the group. Teamwork is based on the integration of everyone's personal aspects.

Individualism, inside a group, is harmful. Individuality can be worked in a positive way. This is more important than just understanding the words' definition.

“Existe lugar para individualidade dentro de um grupo, mas não existe lugar para individualismo”.

Pequenos detalhes podem fazer uma grande diferença. Isso acontece especialmente com algumas definições. Quando entendemos a diferença, fica mais fácil tomar uma decisão e agir.

Cada indivíduo tem características, habilidade e dinâmica particulares. É importante respeitar e valorizar isso. Esses aspectos pessoais são componentes para integrar um grupo de pessoas, especialmente se tiver a ver com ação. É o que chamamos individualidade. Um pouco diferente é o individualismo. Ele é um comportamento onde aspectos pessoais sobressaem à integração de todos. Trabalho em equipe se baseia na integração dos aspectos pessoais de todos.

Individualismo, dentro do grupo, é perigoso. Individualidade pode ser positiva. Isso é mais importante do que apenas entender a definição das palavras.

ETHICS AND TEACHING // ÉTICA E ENSINO

“Let’s not forget that ethics needs to be taught”.

This is a subject that is becoming more and more critical. Organizations and individuals are taking ethics more serious than ever. Ethics is the regulation for respect.

Unfortunately, this is a condition that should not exist. We should be able to show respect naturally and spontaneously. Since we cannot trust our own behavior, as human beings, we need to develop rules of conduct. However,  this is not enough. We also need to teach people those rules and create norms for those to be followed, including punishments in case of disrespect. In fact, punishment is the part that has been more emphasized lately.

It is a mistake to assume people naturally knows principles of ethics. This is not because people are bad, it is because they come from different backgrounds.

“Não vamos esquecer que ética precisa ser ensinada”.

Esse é um assunto que está se tornando cada vez mais crítico. Organizações e indivíduos estão levando a ética mais a sério do que nunca. Ética é a regulamentação do respeito.

Infelizmente, essa é uma condição que não deveria existir. Deveríamos ser capazes de mostrar respeito natural e espontaneamente. Como não podemos confiar em nosso comportamento, como seres humanos, precisamos desenvolver regras de conduta. Mas isso não é tudo. Precisamos ensinar as pessoas essas regras e criar normas para serem seguidas, incluindo punições em caso de desrespeito. Essa é a parte que tem sido mais enfatizada recentemente.

É um erro presumir que as pessoas conheçam naturalmente princípios éticos. Não por serem más, mas porque elas vêm de históricos diferentes.

FIXATION // FIXAÇÃO

🇺🇸 To know the words is more then have information about the meaning, is to find out the understanding and the reasons too. There’re hidden connections and history. With the power of transforming themselves from the past and into the future, the words are always alive, bringing sense to our world.
 Although they’re transformative, they also bring the idea of steadiness, like today’s word FIXATION. It’s a form to express the verb to fix, that means to make it stable and it can be used when we’re putting in a permanent and good condition, repairing and attaching to something. Fixation also has a meaning that’s used to indicate a condition of the mind, connected with the emotions.
 In this specific case, the principle is the same, but the effects can go further than the basic meaning. Fixation is related with the sight, but has a strong effect in the behavior. We can see it through two sides: a determination or focus to get into results, like when someone is doing a research or studying for a very important subject. The other side can be more complex, because is an emotional condition when someone has a disturbing obsession for another person or object. That can have negative effect, and can get to the point of needing specific help, like something that has to be fixed.
 Our mind has an attention span and it’s good to respect that, because when we go beyond, we allow certain things to become permanent and a very important thing to our mind is to renew continuously.

🇧🇷 Conhecer as palavras é mais do que ter informação sobre seu significado, é descobrir a compreensão e as razões também. Existem conexões e uma história por detrás. Com o poder de transformação do passado para o futuro, as palavras sempre estão vivas, trazendo sentido ao mundo.
 Embora sejam transformativas, também trazem a idéia de estabilidade, como a palavra de hoje, FIXAÇÃO. É uma forma de expressar o verbo fixar, que significa tornar estável e pode ser usado quando deixamos algo em condição permanente, ou prendermos uma coisa à outra. Fixação também tem um significado que é usado para indicar uma condição da mente, conectada com as emoções.
 Neste caso específico, o princípio é o mesmo, mas os efeitos podem ir além do significado básico. Fixação está relacionada com o olhar, mas tem um forte efeito no comportamento. Podemos ver por dois lados: uma determinação ou foco em alcançar resultados, como alguém fazendo uma pesquisa ou estudando para um assunto importante. O outro pode ser mais complexo, porque é uma condição emocional onde alguém tem uma obsessão perturbadora por outra pessoa ou objeto e pode ter um efeito negativo ao ponto de necessitar ajuda específica, como algo que precisa ser estabilizado.
 Nossa mente tem um período de atenção e é bom respeitar isso, porque se vamos além, permitimos que certas coisas se tornem permanentes e é muito importante pra nossa mente se renovar constantemente.
