🇺🇸 We’re seeing the time passing. We can tell where we’re coming from. We know the past, we’ve seen the transitions from the past. We’ve registered the history, study about it in the school. So we’ve grown assuming that the history is what happened and we've placed our milestones based on what it was told.
Until someone comes and start to tell a new story about the old story and things start to get confusing. Since I was a kid I’ve heard about the “OK” expression. It did always mean “something good”, “it's fine”. About the gesture it was different. In Brazil, where I come from, the American gesture is not related with the expression “OK”, because it’s a bad meaning. For the “OK” we use the “thumb up” instead.
But I knew about that. I knew that in the US the gesture has a positive meaning. The difference was a cultural issue. But now a new story began to be told. Recently the gesture for “OK”, the thumb connecting the indicator with the other three fingers up, has being related to the “power of the white supremacy”. In the social networks the “OK” emoji now it’s sentenced to be removed and some medias, like Instagram, are threatening to block and remove any picture showing the gesture and the emoji. To be frank, I don’t like this new story and don’t agree with that. But we have to respect the people’s sensitivity on our days.
It’s complicated when we allow any new story to come and change life. If we know the real story about anything, we should stand for what is truth, unless the truth is something bad that we should end too.

🇧🇷 Vemos o tempo passar. Podemos dizer de onde estamos vindo. Conhecemos o passado, temos vista as transições do passado. Registramos a história, estudamos ela na escola. Assim crescemos entendo que aquela história é o que aconteceu e colocamos os marcos na história baseado naquilo que foi dito.
Até que alguém chega e começa a contar uma nova história sobre a velha história e fica confuso. Desde que era criança aprendi a expressão “OK”. Sempre significou “algo bom”, “está tudo bem”. Sobre o gesto é diferente. Aprendi que nos EUA tem esse significado, mas o mesmo gesto, no Brasil, já tem outro significado, nada “OK”. Sempre usávamos o polegar pra cima pra nos referimos a algo positivo e “OK”.
Mas eu entendia isso. Sabia que a diferença era uma questão cultural e que nos EUA o significado do gesto era positivo. Agora uma nova história começa a ser contada. Recentemente o gesto “OK”, polegar conectando o indicador e os 3 outros dedos pra cima, está sendo relacionado com a “supremacia da raça branca”. Nas redes sociais o emoji está sendo condenado a ser removido e algumas mídias, como Instagram, já estão ameaçando remover e bloquear fotos com o gesto. Para ser franco, não gosto e não concordo com essa nova história. Mas temos que respeitar a sensibilidade das pessoas hoje em dia.
É complicado quando permitimos novas histórias interferirem em nossa vida. Se você sabe sobre a real história algo, defenda a verdade, a menos que a verdade seja ruim e precise ser encerrada também.
